Leibster Award

Lovely Claire from The Digital Iris has very sweetly nominated me for a Leibster award and I'm the sort of person who likes to wear awards with pride.

So I've taken on the challenge of this blogger award, that aims to spread the word about reading new blogs, by answering Claire's (great!) questions, as you can see below. Then I've made up my very own batch of questions and am going to pass the Leibster baton on to some ace bloggers I'm a'following. So here goes:

1.   What's your favourite type of biscuit?
I really want to say custard cream, but that might just be as that was the last biscuit I ate. So I think I'll say instead that my favourite biscuit is the one I last ate...I'm very diplomatic when it comes to treats I can dip in my tea.

2.   Book or film?
I'll have a book please. I somehow don't have the patience for films (an hour and a half always seems like too much of a commitment) but give me a novel, a tricky tale and pretty prose, and I'm happy. In fact I even help run Blookclub with its founder Zoe from Conversation Pieces in SE London and Kirsty from A Safe Mooring in Edinburgh. So, yeah, it has to be books otherwise they'd probably have my guts for garters ;)

3.   If you had to live in a decade other than the current one, which would you choose?
I quite like this one to be honest...but at the moment fashion-wise the 70s are edging ahead of the others. Not full on flares and platforms mind. But good solid colours, block shapes and excellent sunglasses.

4.   Describe your perfect Sunday
Firstly it's summertime. There's papers to read. Tea and crumpets in bed. A purring cat. The boy is home. A Poirot I've not seen before on the telly in the afternoon. Knitting. Friends round for dinner. Someone else does the washing up. Wine. Pudding.
Sunday stuff
5.   What's your party trick?
Gosh I really don't think I have one of those. Bad dancing? Singing like a strangled cat?! Oh I know I have different coloured eyes, not good in a nighttime party, maybe useful at one outside in the daytime?? *clutches at straws*

6.   What's the last album you bought/downloaded?
I'm a bit of a binge-listener with music, I'll play an album until I know all the words and get sick of it. The last album I downloaded with Lorde's album. Still loving it. But am currently trialling new potential obsessions on Spotify...

7.   Which season of the year do you enjoy most?
Summer. Obvs. Longer days. Sunshine (in theory). Holidays. And it's my birthday. I'm basically just waiting for the rest of the year to pass until I get there.
Me in the summer, look how happy I am!
8.   When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Kylie Minogue in the I Should Be So Lucky period.
Or wearing this hat
9.   Which beauty/grooming product could you not live without?
I try hard not be drawn into product loyalty with beauty products and don't want to feel I have to rely on one product. So for me it's usually whatever is on sale and smells the nicest (and yes I am an old hippy at heart).

10. What's the story behind your blog name?
I wanted my blog to be annonymous to begin with. I'm not a writer so I was a bit shy putting my interiors obsessed witterings online under my own name. I studied American Literature at university and one of the books I wrote about for my dissertation was The Great Gatsby (the main one was Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night - read read read it if you haven't it is brilliant, beautiful and as always with Fitzgerald heartbreakingly sad)
Source
Anyway I digress...in the book Gatsby spends his whole life building up a persona and lifestyle that he thinks will please the girl he fell in love with when he was young. She is married and Daisy Buchanan when we meet her in the novel, but when he falls in love with her she is Daisy Fay. There's something about him trying to capture the past in her that is kind of fascinating.

So I used to say that if I need to book into a hotel under a pseudonym (cos of *course* that is going to happen) I'd be Daisy Fay. But my interest in blogging happened before then and Daisy Fay Interiors was born. I still like it but, like most bloggers I know I regret it slightly - as another name is just confusing and it really doesn't have anything to do with what my blog is about. But hey, still love it really!

So it's my turn to nominate some bloggers and dole out some questions *rubs hands gleefully*. I'd like to nominate: Jo from The Only Place, Ashley from Wake up the LandLucy from DecoenvySiobhan from Some Things Have Happened and Liz from Margot & Barbara

And here are my questions. Hopefully not too evil:
  1. What was your favourite subject at school?
  2. What's your top undiscovered shop?
  3. What book are you reading at the moment?
  4. Favourite piece of homeware you own?
  5. Dream piece of homeware *wish* you owned?
  6. Dream job?
  7. Favourite song or band that we might not know?
  8. Blog post that you are most proud of?
  9. If you could change the name of your blog - what would you call it?
  10. What is your favourite mug (these are my questions - it was inevitable right?!)?
Right that's it. I look forward to seeing the answers!

Oh and make sure to take a look at the blogs I've nominated - it's a great bunch of blogs I love to read and I reckon y'all will to (unless you already read them - then you just get a nice pat on the back).
